Russian scientists will test a new generation of underwater modem

Based on the seaside of the Institute of Marine Technology Problems will be tested domestic underwater modem new generation. The device will allow to communicate under water at a record depth, in particular, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, informs «Pacific Russia».

For several years, scientists from Vladivostok, together with colleagues from Tomsk are working to create underwater robots to explore the underwater world and conducting geological surveys at great depths. Create a new modem is an integral part of the program to integrate communications and robotics.

The first tests of the device have shown very good results. According to information received by this modem can transmit data under water at a rate of 1.2 kilobits per second. This figure is six times faster than other existing today in Russia similar robots.

Moreover, the test modem complies with international standards. Now the device will be tested at the Institute of Marine Technology Problems RAS (MPPI) in Vladivostok.

Today in Russia there are only a few devices, developed by scientists of the institute, can go down and work at a depth of six kilometers. A new sample is able to descend to a depth of Mary depression, which is almost 12 kilometers, according to «Vostok-Media».
