I love how the forest floor looks at this time of year, especially in places like this one where the sun barely reaches the ground and shade is the rule rather than the exception. You gotta get low to take pictures here so I dropped to my knees and started crawling along. The air was cool and musty down here with my face just a few inches from the ground and, surprisingly, slightly warmer than it was when I was standing up. And I like how random they seem, just pushing up anywhere they please. The bugs, in fact, seemed to be loving the day. They swarmed all over the flowers along the creek, especially the ones out in the sunshine. I wish I knew what kinds they were but there seemed to be at least a dozen different species. One of the flowers a fringed grass of parnassus blossom looked like the cantina scene in Star Wars.
