The refrigerated ship Nort and the fishing vessel Adex disappeared in Sea of Okhotsk on 130 nautical miles Nort-West off Paramushir island in Kuril Archipelago. The Russian State Marine Rescue Service started search and rescue operation, engaging aircraft AN-74 of Russian Emergencies Ministry and icebreaking rescue ship Siberian, which discover the area and search for the missing vessels. The vessel disappeared are fresh weather with west winds of 9 m/s, waves with height of 2.00 m and visibility of 5.6 nautical miles with snow. The refrigerated ship Nort was operating as fish processing factory, collecting the production from the nearby fishing vessels, including Adex. The circumstances around the missing two vessels are unclear, but authorities follow an investigation, informs «Pacific Russia».
There is no connection neither with the shipowners, nor with the crew. All the crews of both vessels reportedly comprise of Russian nationalities. The both vessels belong to a Korean company East Shine Shipping Co Ltd, based in Busan. Besides fishing vessels, the company owns 2 fish carriers, two reefers and one general cargo vessel, all with Russian roots. During the search and rescue operations, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry plane found life raft in the search area at Sea of Okhotsk near the North Kuriles, as well as life jackets and several immersion suits floating over the water not far from it.
“The raft was found on Wednesday during aerial surveys. It is unknown whether there is a raft of people, and whether it belongs to the missing vessels”, said from the Russian State Marine Rescue Service. “The airplane of Emergencies Ministry returned to base in Khabarovsk on Wednesday. The search operation continues for missing vessels operating in the region. For last three days we had covered 13,500 sq km, but weather worsen and we interrupted the SAR. As long as the weather permits, we will resume and in the search will attend the rescue ship Siberian and the fishing fleet operating in the area at Sea of Okhotsk”, added Russian State Marine Rescue Service.

The ship has gross tonnage of 570 GRT and operate under the flag of Togo. According to Russian media, the ship was detained earlier in December 2015 at Petropavlovsk port, Kamchatka for illegal fishing, but released in January 1. The information is not yet confirmed.
The refrigerated ship Nort (IMO: 8138724) has overall length of 50.00 m, moulded beam of 10.00 m and maximum draft of 4.50 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 495 DWT and the gross tonnage is 677 GRT.
