My friends who go to less highly ranked schools in LA, Chicago, NY, etc. have had access to significantly more events, internship opportunities, networking/connections, etc. simply by virtue of living where they do. WashU’s general prestige makes it relatively easy to end up with a decent job post grad, of course, but the local professional scene leaves much to be desired. I like to go out, but I’m really not a fan of the Greek scene, so it’s a huge con for me. That was really discouraging my freshman year kinda sucks when you’re just trying put yourself out there and make friends by joining groups, and you’re forced to put yourself through fairly stringent interview processes (plus, probably deal with some hurtful rejections) before you find people who are willing to let you join. But I’m actually not sure if the whole rigorous club application process is common at other top schools, might just come with the territory.
